Orange Banana, Kale Smoothie Recipe

I've gotten back into the routine of starting my morning off right with a smoothie. My favorite breakfast smoothie is Orange Banana and Kale. It tastes delicious and gives me a good boost of energy for the day. Making smoothies also enables me to get more servings of fruits and veggies in, something that I struggle with. If you've never tried making a smoothie, or are afraid of the green like I once was; this one is a good place to start! I prefer smoothies over juicing because you get more fiber and it's more enjoyable to drink.

I use my NutriBullet to make all my smoothies - I love it!  If you don't have a NutriBullet, you can use a blender to make your smoothie.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Orange
  • 2 to 3 stalks of Kale. I don't include the full stem, just the top portion and leafy parts.
  • 1 Banana - I wait for my bananas to get really ripe, then I slice them into 4's and place them in sandwich baggies in the freezer. You can always use a unfrozen bananas which I use when I forget to freeze them.
  • Half Cup of Greek Vanilla Yogurt. - You could opt to use another type of yogurt or almond milk. I've used almond milk and plain yogurt before, but I wasn't too big of a fan. I prefer it much better with vanilla yogurt.
  • Some Crushed Ice - As desired. I like a consistency that's a little more on the thick side, so I add in more ice. I'll usually make my smoothie then once everything is blended I'll add in more ice to get my desired consistency.

Pour into a cup or drink right out of your NutriBullet cup and enjoy!

I used MyFitnessPal to track the calories on this smoothie and it's about 350! Not to bad for a nutritious breakfast.

Finding the right vendors

When we started looking for vendors, I scoured the internet but mostly I was planning on relying o recommendations from friends. Turns out this wasn't as great a plan as it sounds. Although I was able to get some great recommendations, we kept thinking we could find a better price. We stayed diligent and were able to find great vendors at a fraction of the cost of what some others had paid. So the best advice I can give you is to keep looking until you find a great vendor at the right price. It may seem impossible but it's not! When it came to our photographer, I knew exactly who I wanted. This amazing photographer that is the sister-in-law of my Fiance's best man. I've had my heart set on them photographing my wedding since I met them and started following their page. I was warned that they were pricey, but when I inquired and found out just how pricey my mouth dropped. There was no way we could possibly afford them, their cheapest package started around $5,000. I ...

PSA!

Something I'd like to share with everyone, in case you didn't know because you just never bothered to look into it like me - apparently FabFitFun does giveaways! I've been getting my boxes for almost a year now, and I've just noticed this now.... it's very unfortunate especially since this stuff is great. Their giveaways this season are ranging from $140 to $915, which doesn't include the trip giveaway.  I recently learned from my friend that I could customize my boxes - I know I'm terrible I really need to look into what I'm purchasing here because I'm missing out on perks. I'm sad I didn't pick out a couple of the things because I wish I could enter those giveaways. There's probably a good possibility that I could still, but when there's a hint that you should include the product of the brand doing the giveaways, it makes you feel like maybe you should skip that one. I'm excited! Let me just apologize now for my Instagram ...

What's the bravest thing you've done recently?

The bravest thing I've done recently is to confront a "friend" about lies she's told about me and how I feel about our friendship. If you read my earlier blog post "To invite or not to invite?" you may remember the friend I'm referring to. For those that didn't or need a recap - here's a little back story:  In 2013 on of my former best friends asked if I'd be interested in temping at the bank she was temping at. I jumped at the opportunity and was very grateful. At the time I did not have a car and was working at a daycare making very little so I was unable to save the money I needed to purchase a new one. We lived within five minutes of each other so we would car pool. Her sister that also worked with us created a payment system -  at first the three of us car pooled with her sister driving, we would each give her $30 a week, then when she got a car of her own and it was just the two of us driving, I would pay her $35 a week for gas. I ...
